Emergency Wound Care Saves a Life

Dear Friend,

PHASE Nepal continues to provide vital healthcare services in remote Himalayan communities where access to treatment is often limited by geography, poverty, and lack of infrastructure. Our health posts serve as lifelines for vulnerable individuals in urgent need of care.

We would like to share the story of Aushi Bumi ( name changed) , a 65-year-old woman from Sipa village in Soru Rural Municipality-7, Mugu district. Her story is a powerful example of the impact your support makes.

Aushi Bumi lives with her 70-year-old husband in a small household with minimal income, relying solely on his government allowance. Their son lives separately, and only their daughter-in-law assists occasionally when health issues arise.

While working in the field, Aushi slipped and fell, sustaining a deep cut to her head. She was rushed to the PHASE health clinic by her husband and daughter-in-law, bleeding heavily from the wound.

Upon arrival, the health team acted immediately:

  • Stopped the bleeding by packing the wound with gauze.
  • Checked her vital signs:
  • Cleaned the wound with saline and betadine, removed embedded dirt and stones, and administered lignocaine for pain relief.
  • Sutured the wound with 7 stitches and completed dressing.
  • Prescribed medicine for 5 days.
  • Counseled the family on follow-up care and instructed Aushi to return for regular dressing changes.

Thanks to the swift, professional response at no cost, Aushi recovered safely and continued her treatment with regular follow-ups.

Her husband said, "I am very glad to have the PHASE clinic near my house. My wife is alive today because of the PHASE staff. I could never afford private medical care with my low income. Thank you from the depth of my heart."

This is just one of many stories that show the life-saving difference your generosity makes. Your continued support allows us to reach the most underserved, delivering timely healthcare in the most remote corners of Nepal.

With gratitude,
The PHASE Nepal Team
