Summary

The earthquake that struck Kathmandu on Saturday, April 25th has claimed more than 4,000 lives and left many more people injured. Families are still searching for their relatives who remain buried under the rubble and healthcare facilities are overwhelmed. ActionAid has been working in Nepal for over 30 years. Currently, we are providing emergency relief, and supporting hospitals and other health facilities by providing medical supplies and helping those injured get access to much-needed care.

Challenge

With aftershocks - including a massive second earthquake - causing further chaos and confusion, people are frightened and in need of your support. The majority of people affected by the quake are sleeping out in the open, in temperatures as low as 37 degrees, for fear that their homes may collapse in continued shocks. With heavy rain forecast for the next few days, we need to get them shelter, fast. These people urgently need help obtaining life-saving supplies such as food, water, and shelter.

Solution

ActionAid has been working in Nepal for over 30 years. Currently, we are providing emergency relief, and supporting hospitals and other health facilities by providing medical supplies and helping those injured get access to much-needed care. We're also providing psychosocial care to help address the trauma caused by this disaster. As death and injury tolls continue to rise, right now is the most critical time to respond. With your help we can reach more people and save more lives.

Long-Term Impact

By providing life-saving support today you can help ensure that no more lives are lost and that the people of Nepal know that the world stands in solidarity with them. ActionAid's work in the aftermath of this disaster will help to save lives, and offer long term recovery and support to the nearly 6.6 million people affected by this disaster. As with all our emergency response, ActionAid prioritizes the most marginalized people such as women, children, and people with disabilities.
