Peace Winds teams have been on the ground in Nepal since the massive flash floods devastated communities in the Himalayan valleys on August 26. They are working with local partners to provide relief according to survivors' greatest needs. Donations will help us provide hygiene items, food, clean water, medical supplies, and other critical assistance to communities affected by this disaster.
Catastrophic floods have devastated central Nepal, killing thousands of people. The disaster caused widespread destruction to homes, roads, bridges, and other major infrastructure. Thousands of survivors need humanitarian aid ranging from emergency supplies and food to long-term support as they rebuild. With communication and transportation routes disrupted and additional flash floods posing further risks, conducting needs assessments on the ground is critical.
Peace Winds team members have extensive disaster response experience in Asia, including in Nepal. Our emergency response team is working with partners and local communities to match our activities to their actual needs and provide essential aid. So far, we have provided kitchen supplies to several hundred families. For survivors who lost their homes and belongings, these supplies let them cook for themselves and take a first step toward rebuilding their lives.
Your donations help us commit to flexible support as survivors' needs evolve, immediately and in the coming weeks and months. Our Nepal team will continue to speak with survivors and local partners to monitor the changing situation and deliver emergency relief. When the "emergency phase" ends, we continue to work with local partners to support long-term recovery. Those efforts may include debris removal, infrastructure development, psychosocial care, and community revitalization activities.
