Peace Winds disaster responders are deploying to Nepal to support emergency relief after massive flash floods devastated communities in Himalayan valleys on August 26. They are working with local partners to provide emergency supplies and other relief according to survivors’ greatest needs.
Hundreds of people have already been declared dead with more than 1,000 missing. While the true extent of the damage is still unclear, the disaster has caused widespread destruction to homes, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. The northern district of Rasuwa, near the China border, is the hardest-hit. In some cases, entire settlements have been submerged in muddy flood waters.
Thousands of survivors need humanitarian aid ranging from emergency supplies, food, and clean water to medical care. Donations will help Peace Winds deliver these. They will also help us commit to flexible support as communities’ needs evolve, both immediately and in the coming weeks. Communication and transportation are cut off in many areas, so conducting needs assessments on the ground is critical. Our Nepal team will continue to speak with survivors and local partners to monitor the changing situation and deliver emergency relief accordingly.
Peace Winds Japan is considered one of Asia’s most capable disaster responders, including experience in Nepal. Our ARROWS team of doctors, nurses, and logisticians is one of only 40 WHO-accredited emergency response teams worldwide. Your support makes it possible for them to provide lifesaving relief supplies and other support to the hardest-hit areas.
