Peace Winds disaster responders are deploying to Nepal to support emergency relief after massive flash floods devastated communities in Himalayan valleys on August 26. They are working with local partners to provide relief according to survivors' greatest needs. Donations will help us provide hygiene items, food, clean water, medical supplies, and other emergency supplies to survivors of this tragedy.
Catastrophic floods have devastated central Nepal, and well over 1,000 people are dead or missing. The true extent of the damage is still unclear, but the disaster has caused widespread destruction to homes, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. Thousands of survivors need humanitarian aid ranging from emergency supplies and food to medical care. Because communication and transportation are cut off in many areas, conducting needs assessments on the ground is critical.
Peace Winds team members have extensive disaster response experience in Asia, including in Nepal. Our ARROWS team of doctors, nurses, and logisticians is one of only 40 WHO-accredited emergency response teams worldwide, and they deliver aid in accordance with survivors' most critical needs. Your support makes it possible for them to provide lifesaving relief supplies and other support to the hardest-hit areas.
Your donations help us commit to flexible support as survivors' needs evolve, both immediately and in the coming weeks. Our Nepal team will continue to speak with survivors and local partners to monitor the changing situation and deliver emergency relief accordingly. When the "emergency phase" ends, we continue to work with local partners to support long-term recovery. This often includes psychosocial care and community revitalization activities.
