SHN's Community Care Centers (CCCs) are at the heart of SHN's catalyst program. Each CCC will run a 2-year program, including a home group for every family and move to a new compound every 4 years, engaging more children in more compounds than our previous model. These are free programs at each CCC and are coupled with a cash transfer program to support the families and incentivize faithful attendance. There are no other programs like this in Zambia. Each center provides a space for 60 children
In Lusaka, Zambia, children with intellectual disabilities are considered cursed and are hidden away in their homes. Therefore, kids who have disabilities are often left incredibly marginalized and vulnerable, and without a community of support and families that are unsure how to care for their child.

Our CCCs operate as parent training centers and consider every aspect of the child's health and well-being so that each caregiver can be trained based on the specific developmental needs of their child. The centers are located within each compound (a high density, high poverty community) so that the community can feel the impact of a safe, inclusive space for children with disabilities and facilitate relational support among families who live near each other.
