Eswatini is a lower middle-income country & 63% of Swazis live below the poverty line. Education is the ladder of poverty alleviation and we hope to see Eswatini children have a good learning and developing in schools. A healthy school environment will help children succeed in schools. However, most of school kitchens are old in Eswatini which need to be renovated or re-built. TFCF kitchen will deliver healthy school meals to Eswatini children and benefit for children growth and development.
Mabhahhu Catholic School was established for the wellbeing of orphans and vulnerable children in 2009. The school is lack of financial resources and struggles to improve the school environment. The existing simple kitchen was built by short wall and roof structures only. Using stone open fire cooking method, the cooking space became smoky and also the kitchen hygiene can result in food poisoning with the poor food storage, handling, preparation and cooking practices, especially in rainy days.
The project will help build a new kitchen in Mabhahhu Catholic School and deliver nutritious meals for 100 schoolchildren every school day. Children can enjoy delicious breakfast & lunch in school. The new kitchen with a storage room will allow caregivers to cook with good food hygiene standards and provide healthy meals for schoolchildren by using reusable and clean dinnerware and plates. Giving healthy eating & hygiene is the essential to ensure the growth, health, and development of children.
In order to reduce hunger and diseases, we will build a new and large scale, equipped kitchen with food storage room where nutritious meals will be prepared for children in school. With the annual accumulation of 100 students, it will benefit more Eswatini Kids in Mabhahhu Catholic School. Schoolchildren will have a clean and safe learning environment to grow by receiving nutritious and healthy food. TFCF new build kitchen & meals support will be a long-term solution for all children in school.
