Nigeria Hunger Crisis: Save 8000 Starving Children

Summary

Nigeria faces one of the worst hunger crises in the world, with over 25 million people at risk of food insecurity in 2025. Children are the most affected, with UNICEF warning that 800,000 under age five are severely malnourished and may die without urgent help. This project will provide food supplies and nutrition care to 8,000 starving children in rural and conflict-affected areas, giving them immediate relief and reducing preventable deaths.

Challenge

Conflict, poverty, and rising food prices have pushed Nigeria into a hunger emergency. The northeast remains the worst affected, where families cannot afford basic food. Women and children are most vulnerable, with many children already showing signs of wasting and stunted growth. With limited aid reaching rural communities, thousands face the risk of starvation.

Solution

The project will deliver life-saving food and nutrition care to 8,000 starving children. Mobile feeding teams will distribute fortified meals, therapeutic food, and conduct nutrition checks in hard-to-reach areas. Emergency feeding centers will be set up in villages where families have no access to food. This direct intervention will reduce child deaths and stabilize nutrition levels.

Long-Term Impact

By saving lives now, this project lays the foundation for stronger communities. Families will have children who survive and grow into healthy adults, reducing the burden of long-term malnutrition. The nutrition hubs and feeding centers can remain active, supporting more children during future shortages. With early recovery from hunger, children will have better chances to attend school and contribute to their communities.
