In MAKAIA we believe in the power of technology to empower and strengthen social organizations. We aim to create truly transformative courses, and give social organizations, tools and information they could not access in any other way.
This is why, with your help, we carried out our newest Global Giving-funded training course "ICT in a Social Organization: Why use it? And What for?” An 8 hour course that aimed to provide theoretical tools to understand the uses of ICT for social change, as well as the information on the strategic everyday use these tools with social organizations, to help them understand how this knowledge can improve their community impact, visibility and fundraising.
Thanks to your donations, we were able to organize and carry-out an 8 hour course, held on May 7th, at the San Javier Library Park in Medellín, attended by 11 carefully selected organizations that had great need and a great attitude towards learning!
Representatives of the participating organizations, actively engaged in both the theoretical part of the course to understand the strategic issues of the use of ICT in social organizations, and a practical portion of the course where we taught them how to thoroughly utilize the tools to further their organization’s work. Later that same week each organization received individualized counseling on how to better use the knowledge and ICT in their day to day work.
The course offered an exploration of the relevance of ICT for development and social change, and trained participants in the use of tools and methodologies for the appropriate use of ICT everyday in their social organization and their development projects.
Attendees where very excited about the course content since the first trainning sessions, on the course content, and expressed how this was a rare opportunity for people in the social sector in Medellín and the importance of learning to analyze other content related to ICT tools in everyday social organizations and communications processes.
Maria Juliana from Artesas said, “This course was an incredible opportunity, I especially enjoyed the course about how to use email more efficiently and how to create electronic newsletters for my organization, some of those tools we could have never found in any other way”
Oscar from Fundación Las Golondrina expresses “I am grateful for this opportunity is amazing how many things we can use to make our work more efficient and how many tools we were missing! Thank you!”
