This project will establish a shelter at the National Institute of Child Health in San Borja, providing accommodation for at least 100 families while their children receive medical treatment. Inspired by the Family-Centered Care philosophy of Ronald McDonald House, this refuge will not only offer a place to stay but also emotional support and comfort, enabling families to focus on the well-being of their sick loved ones.
The lack of state shelters in Peru for families whose children receive medical treatment in Lima is a critical issue. The current shelter capacity is insufficient given the high number of new cases of illnesses detected annually, and many families are forced to sleep in hospitals due to lack of resources. This initiative will benefit at least 100 families by providing them with a more sui table environment to support their children during treatment.
The project will address the lack of adequate shelters for families whose children receive medical treatment in Lima by establishing a Family Welcome Room following the standards of Ronald McDonald House Charities. The structure will be modular with metal framing and thermoacoustic panels, ensuring comfort. It is planned to include 16 equipped and comfortable rooms, 2 dining areas, 4 bathrooms, 1 laundry room, 1 office, and 1 storage room; providing the necessary support to affected families.
The establishment of the Family Welcome Room will benefit 100 families by providing suitable accommodation while their children receive cancer treatment in Lima. This project will address the problem of inadequate shelters, reducing the risk of treatment abandonment due to housing difficulties. In the long term, it is expected to improve medical and emotional outcomes for the children and their families, while also fostering a support network among affected families.
