Nursery Education and Empowerment Fund

Nursery Education and Empowerment Fund

Summary

In Zanzibar, nursery school is compulsory for a child to enroll in primary school. However, all of the local nursery schools are community-run & do not receive funding from the Department of Education. Due to the high rates of poverty in Jambiani, families, teachers, and schools financially struggle to provide children with adequate tools, resources & updated classrooms. This project focuses on three main improvements: teaching & resources, health & well-being, & renovation & maintenance.

Challenge

Trying to teach without proper resources to a class of children who haven't had anything to eat is extremely difficult - the children lose their energy & concentration very easily. A lack of proper nutrition also often leads to the students getting sick & being in such a small space, germs spread very quickly. Most toilets are unsanitary & there is limited access to soap & water to stop the spread of germs. This, along with limited teaching resources leads to an ineffective learning environment.

Solution

Through these three main focuses, we will be able to increase the level of education that the children receive and improve their health. Supporting this project will ensure that the children receive porridge every morning at school, meaning that both their health & capacity for learning will improve. These funds will also provide soap, toothbrushes & toothpaste to increase hygiene, & the school will be able to receive educational materials & undergo much needed renovations.

Long-Term Impact

This project will allow children to develop, learn & accomplish more so that they can progress to primary school & continue their education into a brighter future. To ensure the sustainability and longevity of the African Impact Foundation during COVID-19, donations made via this page as of April 10, 2020, will be used to support all of our projects and operations across Southern and Eastern Africa.
