Dear Friend,
The first rains have arrived. While the sight of rain brings relief from the heat, for the children we support, it signals the start of a painful struggle.
We have just returned from the community, and our hearts are heavy. We watched small children step carefully, trying to avoid the sharp stones and stagnant mud puddles. They were barefoot. The same feet that play and laugh must now walk through dirty water teeming with germs, risking cuts, infections, and sickness.
As the downpours intensify, so do the dangers. A simple scratch on bare feet can become a festering wound. A walk to the latrine or the well can lead to waterborne illnesses that drain the strength from their tiny bodies. Many of these children own only the threadbare clothes on their backs, leaving them shivering and vulnerable in the cold, wet air.
We have an urgent window to act. We want to place sturdy shoes on their feet, creating a barrier between them and the hazardous floodwaters. We want to stock our small clinic with medicine to treat the inevitable coughs and infections. We want to wrap them in warm, dry clothes so they can feel safe and protected from the chill.
With your hand in ours, we can do more than just shelter them from the storm. We can wrap them in the warmth of knowing they are not forgotten.
Will you help us give them the protection they desperately need?
With gratitude and hope,
Seguya Ivan
