John no longer wakes before sunrise.
The morning, when sunlight streams through the window as his grandmother calls him gently. He pulls on his shoes—his own shoes, the ones with the soles that protect his feet—and walks to the kitchen. Sharon is already there, a meal in hand, a bowl of warm porridge waiting.
One year ago, this was unthinkable.
One year ago, John and Sharon walked barefoot through thorn-covered paths, feet bleeding, stomachs empty, searching the bush for wild leaves to eat. Their grandmother watched them suffer, powerless to give them more.
But you changed that.
Because you gave, John and Sharon now eat every day. Because you gave, they attend school instead of scavenging. Because you gave, their feet are healed. Their hope is restored.
Sharon wants to be a teacher now. John says he will build his grandmother a house with a real kitchen.
Their story is no longer about survival. It is about possibility.
You did this. Your compassion ended their long walk through thorns. And because of you, they will never have to walk it again.
