HIV/AIDS Prevention, Awareness, Counseling and Ref

By Seguya Ivan | Project leader

F SSIBU Mission Foundation - Uganda integrates HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention into community health camps to ensure that vulnerable community members receive reliable information and are encouraged to seek appropriate health services. The activity focuses on children, adolescents, young people, caregivers, women, and other community members who may benefit from increased awareness and access to support.

During health camps, facilitators provide education on HIV transmission, prevention, testing, treatment adherence, stigma reduction, and the importance of knowing one's status. Young people are encouraged to make informed decisions and understand how responsible choices can protect their health and future.

The camps also provide opportunities for beneficiaries to discuss misconceptions and fears surrounding HIV. Through respectful group discussions and individual counseling, participants are encouraged to challenge stigma and understand that people living with HIV deserve dignity, protection, support, and inclusion.

Where appropriate and available through qualified health providers, beneficiaries are linked to HIV testing, counseling, treatment, and other relevant services. Individuals requiring additional support are referred to appropriate health facilities or service providers for continued care.

Special attention is given to vulnerable young people, including those who may face social or economic challenges that make accessing health services difficult. Through mentorship and follow-up, the Foundation seeks to encourage positive health-seeking behaviors and strengthen community understanding of HIV.

Donor Impact: Donor investment in HIV/AIDS activities helps take lifesaving information and referral pathways directly to communities that may otherwise remain underserved. A contribution can help us reach more people with prevention education, reduce misinformation and stigma, connect beneficiaries to appropriate services, and support young people to protect their health. Together, we can contribute to communities where HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and support are approached with knowledge, compassion, and dignity.
