Happy Earth Day! We love NYC in spring! Seeing all the trees greening up lifts hearts. We’re especially happy to see the thousand newly planted saplings we campaigned for leaf out around our neighborhood in CB3 and CB6!
As Spring settles in, more good news!
Our new set of Local Food Icons is ready to use. Just in time for our growing season, there are 60 icons ready for you to chart sustainable growing, dining, education, enterprise and specialty elements of local food. See GreenMap.org/localfood for everything you need to make a print map, experience, presentation, signage, etc. Great examples - both interactive and print - are linked there. The set of Local Food Icons are already installed on our mapping platform. Click an icon to compare how different places highlight the eco and social benefits of local food.
Get started on mapping your food scene this season!! We’re just getting started in NYC over Earth Day weekend (track the project here)- and you can use our QR codes to explore or add to this NYC food-flavored Green Map made on our mapping platform. Our thanks to Green Mapmakers and to you for your support.
We’re looking forward to our annual Jane’s Walk on May 5, 3PM - please join us!
This year, Green Map NYC is partnering with the La Sala de Pepe gallery and other anchor points along Avenue C in East Village - a Cultural Corridor is being connected through mapping and this Jane’s Walk is the very first foray! RSVP today!
Look for us at the Loisaida Festival on Avenue C on the afternoon of May 26th, too, when you’ll be able to review the bilingual draft map and add more spots (watch for updates here)!
On May 5th, stroll Avenue C – the heart of Loisaida – with three community leaders: an international mapmaker, an urban anthropologist, and a spoken word poet for an ‘inside’ intro to the visual arts, music, architecture, gardens and foodways that have blossomed along Avenue C. This will be a bi-lingual Spanish / English tour - all are welcome.
Let’s celebrate Earth Day by honoring the Earth every day.
