Greetings from CCBRT & Kupona Foundation!

By Laura Wicks | Director of Business Development

Greetings from Kupona Foundation!

Thank you all for your generous support to Kupona Foundation and CCBRT so far in 2024. We have been working hard to continue to support vulnerable Tanzanians and provide them with quality healthcare and access to development programming that everyone deserves.

Here’s what we accomplished at CCBRT so far in 2024:

  • CCBRT’s Maternal and Newborn Wing has performed 1287 deliveries since it opened in January 2022 and 394 occurring in 2024.
  • CCBRT’s Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology performed the first hysterectomy through laparoscopy in April after attending a fellowship in India.
  • In 2023, CCBRT saw a total of 116,622 patients across their services. Of those, 86,827 had their services subsidized and 8,262 patients were provided with free care including all children under 5, our fistula patients and those with cleft lips/palates.

We have also begun implementing some new initiatives as well as improving others. These include:

  • Increasing our patient mobilization particularly for the core clients of the maternal and newborn wing. This will help us reach and serve more vulnerable women particularly those suffering from obstetric emergencies, past birth traumas, adolescents and teens, and the poorest of the poor in Tanzania.
  • We are developing a robust strategy for our Plastics and Reconstruction department. CCBRT’s Mmed in Plastic and Reconstruction returned to the hospital after the successful completion of his Masters degree and will now lead the development of a strategy for that department to increase its capacity and reach.
  • CCBRT increased its capacity to provide specialized services in for neonatal patients through the onboarding of our new pediatrician at the beginning of December. She is conducting neonatal ward rounds and is teaching the team on how to correctly conduct brain ultrasounds.
  • In January, CCBRT opened two new clinics! We are providing services to those with high-risk pregnancies as well as those experiencing issues with infertility. The clinics operate once a week and anyone in need of the services is provided with specialized care adapted to fit their unique conditions.

As we continue to move forward in 2024, we will continue to increase our impact to reach even more people with CCBRT’s lifesaving services. Thank you again for your continued support of Kupona Foundation and the important work happening every day at CCBRT.
