A Wonderful Gift to Feed More Children

By Adriana Vellanoweth | Executive Director

Kitchen's Opening Ceremony
Kitchen's Opening Ceremony

Sarahuaro Foundation received a wonderful gift and will be able to feed more kids starting this coming school year 2019-2020.

The challenge to help the undernourished children of Cabo San Lucas is overwhelming, and yet thanks to the generous donations of local entrepenuers and the strong support of community leaders, Sarahuaro is now able to open a new school kitchen at one of the most vulnerable and challenged neighborhoods in Cabo San Lucas.

Initially, children will be served around 1000 meals monthly, with plans to increase this number to over 2500 meals during the 2019-2020 school year.  The meal provided at our FIrst Kitchen located in Escuela Primaria Leonardo Gastelum Villalobos (Leonardo Gastelum Elementary School) and now at Escuela Publica Nueva Creacion in Colonia Gastelum in Cabo San Lucas often is the only food the children eat all day. None of this would be possible in this new kitchen without full project funding from the donors and the support of community leaders and the school’s authorities, as well as the the generous donations from individual or corporate institution that will help us operate it.

The Sarahuaro Foundation healthy meal program has been a growing success since 2009 at Escuela Primaria Leonardo Gastelum Villalobos. The children in the established Sarahuaro Kitchen program are thriving with the nutrition necessary to learn, retain their studies, and acquire a brighter future.

In addition to the Children’s School Kitchen Program, Sarahuaro offers the mothers no-cost Life-skills education and trade skills training aimed at empowering the women.

Donations to help us feed the children and support the mothers are necessary and very welcomed.
