More Enrichment

News from MESA:   Mayan Education and Support Alliance (formerly known as Guatemala Housing Alliance)

As our focus as a nonprofit has veered more towards education, our Guatemalan staff advises us as to how to allocate the funds that come our way.    This season we have been gifted a new donation which has enabled us to add another tutoring class to our program.   This now makes 4 classes aimed at giving students the educational support needed to thrive in school.  Most often, the students we support do not have school-educated family members who can help with homework, and computer access is limited.   These classes are foundational for success.

Additionally, we conduct 8 preschool classrooms using  Montessori techniques, fostering curiousity and creativity, and giving 80 children the head start needed to prepare for a public school classroom.

And beyond these classes are another 55 students whose educations MESA funds, from elementary school, through college.  Our social workers also support the families of these students, families which have often sacrificed greatly in order for their children to be able to attend school rather than become part of the workforce at an early age.

And the Moms!   MESA facilitates classes/workshops for 75 women: mothers of our scholarhip students plus others in the community that have asked to join.   This season their focus is on mental health.   Having a place to meet, discuss, learn and, very importantly, to commune with other women, has proven to be very valuable and enjoyed.

So we thank you, our generous donors, for helping to make this all possible.
