Celebrating our Most Impactful Year to Date

Dear GlobalGiving Supporters,

Happy New Year! We are extremely excited to let you know that 2022 was far and beyond our most impactful year to date, thanks in great part to the support of individuals just like you. Through our Agua y Salud (“Water & Health”) Project, largely funded by the Gonzalo Río Arronte Foundation, we brought together numerous community partners like SECOPA, CUVAPAS, and the San Cayetano Community Center, as well as our organizational partner INANA, A.C., to bring rainwater harvesting systems to dozens of communities across 4 different municipalities last year.

Also, in our last report, we mentioned that we had finalized a contract with the Municipal Government of San Diego de la Unión and were breaking ground on the first rainwater systems of a massive 230-system project. We really got to work, and since that last update, we finished the first 185 of those rainwater systems. This project is also being done in partnership with Rotoplas – a corporation that is synonymous with water storage in Mexico that is providing rainwater storage tanks to this project at about half their market price.

All told, we worked in over 40 communities last year and built a staggering 372 household-scale rainwater harvesting systems. That means that 372 new families now have a lifetime of access to clean drinking water. That is more than double what we are able to accomplish in 2021. In fact, we were able to create more access to clean water through our rainwater harvesting program in 2022 than we did in the last 4 years combined – illustrating our increasing ability to leverage partnerships, streamline our processes, and expand access quicker than ever before.

Moving into 2023, we are excited to be developing a new project with the Gonzalo Río Arronte Foundation to expand our rainwater harvesting solutions, composting toilets, and water filtration technologies to dozens of new communities in the coming years. Also, we are incredibly fortunate to be receiving new support through the recently-minted “Clean Water for Life Campaign,” which is being led by a group of dedicated Caminos de Agua supporters, who are seeking to provide an additional $100,000 to support the expansion of our rainwater harvesting solutions to nearly 100 new families in 2023. This campaign is already well underway, and we plan to break ground in new communities soon. So, we are looking forward to updating you all on the progress next time!

All of this work is made possible by the generous support of individual donors, including all of you who contribute through GlobalGiving. So, on behalf of the entire Caminos de Agua team and all of the communities who partner with us, we sincerely, thank you for making clean water possible for so many.
