Challenge

In Mbare, Hopley, and Retreat Waterfalls (Harare, Zimbabwe), many youths affected by poverty and HIV and AIDS are out of school and unemployed. Nearly 49% of Zimbabwean youth (15-35) are not in education, employment, or training, and drug abuse is reported as widespread in 79% of communities. Lacking skills and opportunities, these young people face early marriages, crime, and hopelessness. Without urgent intervention, their potential-and that of their communities-remains untapped.

Solution

The One Stitch at a Time project empowers 60 out-of-school youth from Mbare, Hopley, and Retreat Waterfalls with tailoring and entrepreneurship skills. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and business start-up support, participants gain tools for income generation and self-reliance. Each stitch restores confidence, dignity, and purpose, reducing vulnerability to drugs and early marriages. The project strengthens families and contributes to the development of the community and the nation.

Long-Term Impact

The project will equip 60 young people with skills and income, thereby reducing unemployment and poverty. It will improve health, confidence, and social well-being, while contributing to community development. Building marketable skills strengthens Zimbabwe's human capital and economic growth.
