Mental Health has become the second global pandemic, impacting nearly every human on the planet. Our project equips leaders around the world with culturally responsive mental health knowledge and skills via an online self paced certification course designed for everyday lay persons. Topics include how to cope with stress, anxiety, and trauma and promote self and community resilience, so survivors can heal themselves, support others, and break generational cycles of trauma and harm.
COVID-19 and systemic racism and oppression continue to exacerbate generational cycles of trauma and violence around the world. Yet with only 2 mental health workers per 100,000 people in low and middle income countries (and still only 70 per 100,000 in high income countries), resources are neither available nor financially or culturally accessible to communities who need them most.
Healing Together builds resilient communities by unlocking the power of everyday people to heal and prevent cycles of trauma and violence. In order to meet the overwhelming demand for our work from communities all over the world, we are creating an online training certification that is survivor-led, community-centered, and culturally responsive. Participants will gain tools and resources to support their own healing and to become Healing Advocates for others in the community.
Research studies show the longterm benefits of peer-led "paraprofessional" mental health support. Our track record of training over 2,000 Healing Advocates who impact more than 65,000 survivors around the world demonstrates both the depth and breadth of our model. Our online training aims to equip over 3,000 everyday people in communities disproportionately impacted by trauma with mental health, trauma healing & violence prevention skills to support nearly 100,000 survivors in 4 years.
