In 2023, Care for Children's project in Cambodia made several significant steps crucial to the development of family-based care initiatives. A core focus during this time was the continuous refinement and translation of training materials tailored to the local context. These materials serve as the basis for the effective implementation of family care programs within Residential Care Institutions (RCIs), also known as orphanages.
Needs assessments were conducted comprehensively across both RCIs in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. These assessments played a pivotal role in identifying specific requirements and understanding the unique needs of each institution, informing subsequent strategies and interventions.
Throughout the year, training workshops were successfully delivered to childcare staff at both RCIs. The workshops were designed to empower and upskill the RCI staff, providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge to facilitate the transition towards setting up a successful family placement system, whereby children are moved out of the institution and into local families.
Identifying and preparing children for placement within the RCIs remained a priority. Children at both project sites were identified for placement into loving families, marking tangible progress toward our core objective.
Initiating one-to-one technical support was a crucial step in aiding the RCI staff in Siem Reap with their caseload of children earmarked for placement into families. This direct and personalized support aimed to facilitate a smoother transition process and ensure effective placements.
As things progress, we’ll make sure to keep you updated with the progress! Thank you for your support and for staying connected to our work.
