It is hard to explain the feeling of gratitude that overcomes me every time somebody donates to our projects.  I have been trying to share with all our donors what it means to be in this side… working with so little resources and wishing we could do more for our communities and once more asking for help and funding.   In my job, it seems an endless task…  Therefore, regardless of the size of the donation, I get excited every time:  Your contributions help us maintain our projects and your vote of trust lift our spirits and help us to keep fighting.  It is hard to do this when you feel that you are all alone, that nobody sees what you or your team does.  But when somebody donates to our cause, it is a push to keep it up.  These have been hard times.  And we appreciate your trust through these years.

It has been a similar case for the communities that receive funding from the Osa Community Support Fund (FACOSA).  When there is no funding, groups seem disengaged and unmotivated.  But when funding comes, it motivates them to raise more funds and push further their projects.   I have seen them double and sometimes triple the amount of money we have offered them.  And then add their labor to make a project succeed.  Not only that, they feel cared for, they feel somebody trusted them and it is hard to put a value on that.

This last semester we raised enough funding to support the local school of El Progreso. This school needs lots of improvements to their roof, their toilets and their water pipes.  This school provides education to 25 children in this community.   The school sits in the middle of this sleepy town, forgotten by the government and in desperate need of repairs.  With the support of the FACOSA and the labor of the parents: children and teachers will soon have a better place to attend the lessons.

FACOSA will be funding $3000 USD for the improvements needed.  The school parent teacher board will also do some events to raise the additional funding required.  It is moving to see the parents working so hard and it is an honor to be able to help them.

This is our last semester administrating this fund, after June 2017 our project with the Interamerican Foundation will end and we won’t be able to match any more donations.  But any donation that you make to our organization before June 2017, can be match 1 to 1 by the Interamerican Foundation.

The Osa Community Fund has allocated $38,000 USD dollars to community development ranging from funding micro projects to building drinking water systems in isolated communities. This project has helped many communities to greatly improve their quality of life. The Osa Community Fund was created by our organization with funding from the InterAmerican Foundation earmarked for community projects.  These monies will be given to grass roots groups after they have committed to match the value of the donation by providing man-hours, or similar inputs to the project.  Due of the nature of this funding The Corcovado Foundation does not charge one dollar for its administration. Not having overhead costs means a larger investment in the communities we serve.

I know that there are so many worthy causes out there.  So many organizations in need!  That’s is why I am especially grateful that you decided to donate to our organization.   On behalf of our team, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your generous donation and I want to encourage you to keep informed of our activities and program through our facebook page at www.facebook.com/funcorco.  Please help us help more communities by making a donation to this project on Globalgiving.

We can demonstrate to the children of Osa Peninsula that we care and we can show them that we believe in them.
