The Osa Support Fund (FACOSA) will be allocating funding to the school in Progreso.
The teacher and parent’s association has requested financial support to rebuild the school at El Progreso in Drake Bay. This school provides education to 25 children in this community. The school sits in the middle of this sleepy town, forgotten by the government and in desperate need of improvements.
Being in one of Costa Rica’s most precipitous places is not easy on infrastructure. The building needs lots of maintenance and attention. The termites have worked their way through the infrastructure of the school and it is no longer safe for the children to receive classes in this school. With the support of the FACOSA and the labor of the parents: children and teachers will soon have a better place to attend the lessons.
We will be giving this school $3000 USD for the infrastructure improvements needed. The school will also do some events such as fairs and a soccer championship to raise the additional funding required. It is inspiring to see the parents working so hard and it is a honor to be able to help them.
This is such a worthy cause. It’s so important that kids know what a treasure education is and how imperative it is that they study to make a better future for themselves. As we mentioned in our last report: Children that attend schools in disrepair have lower attendance and worse grades[1]. Lower grades in school can contribute to lower self-confidence, and the lack of adequate education reduces access to future opportunities.
We are in the last stretch of this fund. After June our project with the Interamerican Foundation will end and we won’t be able to match any more donations. But any donation that you make to our organization before June 2017, can be match 1 to 1. Please help us help more communities by making a donation to this project on Globalgiving.
We can demonstrate to the children of Osa Peninsula that we care and we can show them that we believe in them.
The Osa Community Fund has allocated $38,000 USD dollars to community development ranging from funding micro projects to building drinking water systems in isolated communities. This project has helped many communities to greatly improve their quality of life. The Osa Community Fund was created by our organization with funding from the InterAmerican Foundation earmarked for community projects. These monies will be given to grass roots groups after they have committed to match the value of the donation by providing man-hours, or similar inputs to the project. Due of the nature of this funding The Corcovado Foundation does not charge one dollar for its administration. Not having overhead costs means a larger investment in the communities we serve.
