COVID Clinic Conversion Report

By Vanessa Spinazola | Executive Director

Thank you to everyone who has helped JAC convert our clinics to outdoor spaces! We had an outdoor ReEntry Legal Clinic planned in New Orleans East for December, but unfortunately days before the event all of the lights in the basketball court were knocked out. We knew we wouldn't be able to operate a functional evening clinic without overhead lights, so we made the tough decision to cancel.

As COVID continues on at elevated rates, we unfortunately are also considering cancelling our January 30th ReEntry Legal Clinic in Baton Rouge. We are currently exploring whether the library system can assist us with setting up Zoom appointments for people needing legal services so that we can meet with them online. The next ReEntry Legal Clinic set in Baton Rouge is for February 27th, and we are hoping that we are able to keep that date.

For our next New Orleans/Jefferson Parish ReEntry Legal Clinic, we are seeking an outdoor space that is covered, with lighting, but is NOT a basketball court! Ideally we'd like to leave the court open for the kids, so we just had a meeting with the City of New Orleans about parks with picnic pavilions and some spots along the Lafitte Greenway. If you know of any outdoor spaces that might fit the bill, please email us at info@jaclouisiana.org.

Thanks again for your support, which WILL be put to good use! We look forward to updating you again soon.
