Thank you — we can’t say it enough! Because of your generosity, people struggling after these floods were able to receive direct relief in the form of in-kind donations, first aid, and evacuation support to ensure their safety.

The Pacific NW & British Columbia Flood Relief Fund, in partnership with GlobalGiving’s crisis response partnership with Meta, powered two grants:

  • United Way British Columbia: The organization launched its own relief fund in response to the flooding. Through its fund, it has provided emergency food aid, housing assistance, legal services, and mental health care to impacted and displaced families. The organization is also using funds to make grants to its local network of hyper-local organizations that are on the front lines of long-term recovery. More details can be foundhere.

  • Boys and Girls Club of Washington State: The organization stepped up to provide critical support to its local chapters in Whatcom County and Skagit County. Specifically, it helped repair and rebuild the chapter offices of Whatcom County that were damaged as well as fund funeral expenses for a staff member who lost a family member in the disaster. Funds for the chapter Skagit County supported families that required temporary hotel stays during mudslides to help avoid dangerous driving conditions. Financial assistance to impacted families also took the form of gas cards and grocery vouchers.

This fund is no longer accepting donations, and this will be the last fund report of this kind from our team.

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
