Pakistan Flood Relief Fund

Thank you—we can’t say it enough! Because of your generosity, people struggling after the 2022 floods in Pakistan were able to receive food, water, shelter, and long-term recovery support in the form of reconstruction, education, and disaster preparedness training.

The Pakistan Flood Relief Fund has powered 35 grants to high-impact and community-led nonprofit organizations at the forefront of this crisis. You can find a full list of nonprofits receiving a grant from the Pakistan Flood Relief Fund at the end of this report. 

Here is a description of the critical work you’ve supported: 

• National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) is a Pakistan-based organization serving communities and people with disabilities through awareness, skill development, access to health, education, and livelihood and recreational services. The NDF team is working to support more than 1,000 families in the most flood-affected areas of Pakistan’s Sindh province by providing reliable shelter and home repairs for people with disabilities and their families.

• HOPE USA aims to give impoverished women and children in Pakistan opportunities to flourish and become self-sufficient. The organization is focusing its relief efforts in Sindh province, particularly in Badin, Larkana, Dadu, and Shikarpur districts. GlobalGiving funding helped HOPE USA expand its work in Sindh province, which included rebuilding more than 70 homes, providing food rations, and offering free schooling, psychosocial support, and health care for mothers and children. 

• The Citizens Foundation serves isolated communities in Pakistan experiencing high barriers to education amid the country’s widespread education crisis. The organization has delivered nearly 6 million meals to 65,000 families in hard-to-reach, otherwise forgotten communities where its schools are located. The Citizens Foundation also recently provided $4 million in unrestricted micro-cash transfers of $200 each to 20,000 families it serves. In response to the 2022 flooding, the organization plans to repair two of its schools in Sindh province and provide additional micro-cash payments to its students and their families.

• Network of Organizations Working for People with Disabilities, Pakistan was established in 2008 as one of the first disability inclusion initiatives in Pakistan. Leveraging its country-wide network, NOWPD is getting emergency supplies and assistance directly to persons with disabilities in the flood-affected Sindh province. NOWPD is also organizing mobile medical clinics and rebuilding homes in affected communities. 

• Association for Humanitarian Development (AHD) is providing its proprietary water filters to flood-affected Pakistani communities still struggling to access clean water due to damage caused by flooding. 

• Al-Mustafa Welfare Society has been providing assistance to thousands of people in the Balochistan, KP, Sindh, and Punjab regions of Pakistan affected by flooding and lack of resources. Its support includes providing meals, medical assistance, shelter, and emergency aid. Since the flooding, the organization has prioritized rebuilding damaged and destroyed homes across the most affected provinces. 

• Association For Women's Awareness and Rural Development (AWARD) Pakistan is working in Punjab, KP, and Sindh provinces to support marginalized, flood-affected women and families with food rations, hygiene kits, tents, medical supplies, and other emergency relief items in remote and rural communities that other groups and local authorities have not reached. The organization is also providing disaster risk reduction trainings in these communities to build a more resilient future.

• Affected Families, Advocacy, Research, Training and Services (ARTS) Foundation launched an emergency response program prioritizing the needs of marginalized and excluded communities affected by the floods. Its work focuses on providing emergency assistance, including tents, to sections of affected communities with the greatest need. That includes women-headed households, people with disabilities, and children. The ARTS Foundation has established child-safe spaces and Community-Based Protection Mechanisms in four districts of Sindh province with the support of Oxfam. 

• Alif Laila Book Bus Society has provided temporary housing, medical supplies, and clean drinking water across Sindh and Balochistan provinces. It has distributed toys, books, and creative materials to address psychological trauma and stress the children face and engage them in therapy through play. The organization has also rebuilt seven school libraries that were damaged in the flooding. 

• Balochistan Rural Development Program (BRDP) is seeking to rebuild homes in two of the most affected districts within Balochistan and has been providing essential supplies, shelter, food, clean water, tents, bed nets, mattresses, and blankets to impacted families.
