Life-saving emergency relief reaches Gaza

By Ronelle Mungaroo | Communications Manager

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas escalated on October 7 with intense airstrikes and land bombardments. This resulted in the tragic loss of thousands of civilian lives and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people who were fleeing to save their lives.

With its long-standing presence in Palestine since 2002, and active projects in Gaza, the Gift of the Givers immediately responded with urgent humanitarian assistance in the form of hot meals, medical care, fuel for ambulances, hygiene packs and fresh water.

As the conflict intensified over the weeks, and the number of causalities escalated, Gift of the Givers amplified its relief efforts, supported by committed donors.

Amid this humanitarian crisis, the Gift of the Givers made the following interventions:

• 17 000 hot meals distributed in Gaza and Gazan employees in the West Bank.

• 200 families received grocery coupons.

• 2 500 beneficiaries from seven locations received food parcels.

• 1 000 hygiene packs and vegetable baskets were handed out.

• More than 50 000 people received clean drinking water.

• 550 wounded people received financial support.

• More than 2 000 blankets were distributed to injured people in shelters.

• 170 people received clothing.

• Legal support was provided for 30 beneficiaries.

• 150 people received mattresses.

• 5 000 recipients benefitted from bread distributions.

• Medical equipment for emergency departments at Al Shifa, Indonesian and Nassir hospitals was supplied.

  • Medical consumables, air mattresses and medicines were delivered to five institutions, which included Al Shifa, Hifa, Yaffa, Nassir and The European hospitals.

• More than 500 wounded patients received wheelchairs, crutches, diapers and clothing.

• Fuel was provided for ambulances.

• 366 health personnel received financial rewards.

• 200 tons of relief supplies, including medical supplies, food parcels, blankets, winters clothes, water, food materials, medicine have been purchased from Egypt to send to Gaza through the borders.
