Cancer patients in Ghana, especially those in the late stages of the disease, often suffer from severe pain and a lack of proper care. Palliative care services in the country are limited, leaving many patients without access to the essential pain management and emotional support they need. This project aims to provide free or low-cost palliative care services to cancer patients, improving their quality of life and ensuring that they receive the compassionate care they deserve.
In Ghana, access to palliative care and pain management for cancer patients is extremely limited. Many hospitals and clinics lack the resources, training, and medications to provide proper care for patients with advanced-stage cancer. This results in severe, untreated pain and poor quality of life for these patients, who are often left to suffer without the necessary medical support. Rural and low-income patients are particularly vulnerable, as they have even fewer options for care.
This project will solve the problem of inadequate palliative care and pain management for cancer patients in Ghana by providing essential pain-relief medications and establishing mobile care teams to deliver home-based palliative services, particularly in underserved areas. It will adopt a holistic approach to care, addressing both physical symptoms and emotional challenges through counseling and psychosocial support for patients and their families.
This project will build a sustainable model for palliative care services in Ghana. By expanding access to pain management and psychosocial support, it will improve the lives of cancer patients and their families while raising awareness about the importance of end-of-life care in the healthcare system.
