Entrepreneurs du Monde, which has been active in Haiti for 26 years, is fully aware of the Haitian context and continues to support micro-entrepreneurs, essential to their survival and contribution to the country's economy. At a time when 80% of microfinance institutions have closed their doors, Entrepreneurs du Monde is one of only five to continue its mission unabated.
In Haiti, 86% of the working population lives from highly vulnerable employment. Extreme poverty drives enterprising men and women to set up small businesses or workshops to support their families, with very limited resources. But they sorely lack the capital, training and support to develop and secure their business.
Palmis Mikwofinans Sosyal (PMS), a microfinance institution with a strong social vocation incubated by Entrepreneurs du Monde, provides these micro-entrepreneurs with these key services to succeed and lift their families out of extreme poverty: credit without collateral or guarantees ; access to savings ; training in management, health, agriculture and rights ; personalized social support.
Faced with the explosion of gang violence in Port-au-Prince, PMS redeployed to the provinces to continue supporting displaced micro-entrepreneurs. In 2024, over 8,900 entrepreneurs were supported, 78% of them women, with an average loan of 244. Thanks to this support: The average net income of beneficiaries increased by 36% in 18 months ; Entrepreneurs regain financial stability ; They are able to save, invest and finance their children's schooling.
