In response to the recent devastating earthquake in Panama, INNOBUC is launching a $90,000 emergency fund to support the hard-hit regions of Cocle and the Azuero Peninsula. Through our "Turismo que Transforma" network, and in coordination with local municipalities, the Red Cross, and the Fire Department, we provide immediate humanitarian aid and finance long-term community recovery.
A powerful earthquake has struck Panama, causing severe structural damage in western and central provinces, with the Azuero Peninsula (especially the Tonosi district) and Cocle being among the hardest-hit areas. Families have suffered partial or total collapse of their homes, and critical community spaces are compromised. Beyond the immediate physical destruction, this disaster has paralyzed the local micro-economies and artisan networks that depend entirely on community-based tourism.
This project deploys a dual-phase recovery plan in Cocle and Tonosi. First, alongside the Red Cross and Firefighters, we provide emergency food, water, and rapid structural safety inspections for homes and schools. Second, through "Turismo que Transforma," we fund direct grants to rebuild damaged artisan workshops and eco-lodges using resilient practices. This restores safe spaces and revives the local tourism economy, ensuring families regain financial independence and long-term stability.
This project secures long-term economic independence for Cocle and Azuero by restoring the "Turismo que Transforma" network. Rebuilding artisan workshops and eco-lodges with earthquake-resistant methods protects livelihoods from future disasters. Additionally, fixing schools ensures a safe education for children, while strengthening alliances with firefighters and municipalities creates a permanently prepared community capable of thriving without relying on continuous international aid.
