SFM resumed its activities in early October and is pleased to present a project that culminated in the publication of an illustrated book:“Tracer sa voix”. Texts by participants in our sociolinguistic workshops; photos taken by one of our staff members.
How does it feel to arrive in a new country?
What sounds catch us off guard?
What smells leave a lasting impression on us?
What images remain etched in our memory?
At SFM Clichy, the participants in our sociolinguistic workshops explored these questions through a writing project focused on their sensory experiences of arriving in France and the lives they have been building there ever since.
These memories gave rise to unique texts, compiled into a book and presented during our group exhibition “Finding Your Voice.”
Throughout the pages, the texts explore new discoveries, a sense of being in a foreign land, and memories—but also the way in which a new environment gradually becomes familiar.
“At first it was hard because I didn’t know my way around.”
A simple sentence, among many others, that speaks volumes. This project illustrates an essential aspect of our sociolinguistic workshops: learning French isn’t just about acquiring vocabulary or mastering grammar rules—it’s also about being able to tell your story, express your feelings, share your perspective on the world, and gain confidence in your ability to be heard.
With “Tracer sa voix,” the participants aren’t just in a learning situation—they become the authors of their own stories.
