Peace School for Afghan Refugees and Host Communities Report –February 2024- May 2024 Case Study: Amara is student of the grade 5, she is the middle child among the 10 siblings. The mother of Amara is a home based worker and work for a garment factory nearby. Her father is a plumber and works on daily wages. Her mother wanted her children to study well in the school and also get some job after completing the studies. There is a culture of early marriages in the family and most of the girls got married in the age of 14-17 generally. Her father forced her mother for the early marriage so the daughters and told her mother that she along with her elder sister will not continue her studies in future. But her mother resists on the view of her husband and discusses it with the school staff to convince and pressurise the father to stop him from his plans. The principal herself met the father and convince him about the significance of girl child education and the country laws to stop child marriages. Now her father is convinced and the Amara and her sister are studying in the school. Amara wanted to become a doctor in future and wanted to continue her studies. Iqbal Day (National Poet): Iqbal Day, the birthday of late Muhammad Iqbal a national poet and philosopher, who was a great inspiration for the Pakistan Movement. He is also called "Poet of the East". The Day was celebrated in the Peace School by singing the poems of Iqbal and the speeches were made by students on his contribution in the creation of Pakistan. Fitness & Sports Sports develop the physical as well as mental strength in students. Daily physical exercise is essential for students because exercise not only helps students to stay healthy, but it also helps to improve their emotional fitness. Sports is a major part of the Peace school curriculum because if students stay emotionally and physically healthy, they can easily focus on their studies. Students have to participate in school sports to increase confidence, mental alertness, and self-esteem. Visit of Mr. Josef Mr. Josef a well-wisher of Peace School visited the Peace School. He visited various class rooms and met with student. He asked questions to the students about their studies. In the end of the visit he held a meeting with the principal and the teaching staff. Mr. Josef appreciated the teaching system and overall atmosphere of the school. International Peace Day International Peace Day was celebrated in the Peace School. The teachers informed the student about the importance of peace with giving example from Pakistan and the World at large. Students asked various questions to increase their knowledge. Plantation Activity of Red Beans by students of Peace School: At Peace School, Children are taught to focus on organic plantation gardens and curricula that have the strong potential not only to teach fundamental lessons about biology, ecology, food, and nutrition. We have initiated a small school garden that in the long run can be tied to school mid-day meal programs, supplying a portion of the ingredients for the meals. This will ensure regular as well as overall nutritional growth. School garden and garden-based education also have the potential to shape the values and expectations of children and their families about organic agriculture systems and food supplies. Drawing Session Activities: The drawing sessions were held with the students to engage them in extra curricula activities. The students from the prep to 2 classes were assigned for the drawings. This activity helped them to remind the colours name and express their emotions through the drawings. The teachers also brief them about the colouring and shading of the objects before their activity. Annual Results & Staff Meeting The staff meeting was held to discuss the reopening strategy of the school after the annual results. It was discussed that how to review the schedule of the school after the children will resume after their results and new classes. The children in the community came from the underprivileged background so it has been observed that most of the children were not that efficient in the studies when they came back after the first lockdown. So it was decided to start revisions from the first chapters and extra classes for the students in the schools.
