Dear Friends of Fondwa and Asosyasyon Peyizan Fondwa (APF) :

We want to thank you for your continued support of the APF Fondwa Clinic, providing health care access in the mountains of rural Haiti.

These are challenging times for Haiti. According to The Brookings Institution, “Haiti remains gripped by vicious gangs who dominate daily life through their warfare, sieges, and extortion. The Haitian National Police and Haitian politicians, both deeply interconnected with the gangs, are no longer able to hold the criminal on a leash. Close to 5 million Haitians, nearly half the country’s population, face acute hunger. The country also struggles with cholera, high prices and shortages of food, fuel and other necessities, while misery and violence drive refugee outflows.”

Despite this reality, the work of the clinic continues. Between January and March 2023, we carried out the following :

  • For the month of January, we saw a total of 70 patients, 37 for consultations and 33 for vaccinations;
  • For the month of February, we saw 63 patients, 33 for consultations and 30 for vaccinations; and
  • For the month of March, we saw 62 patients, 42 for consultations and 20 for vaccinations.

We encountered 22 people with acute respiratory infection, 15 with high blood pressure, 3 with diabetes, 14 emergencies, 7 cases of intestinal parasites, 4 pregnancy related challenges, 1 typhoid case, and 1 suspected tuberculosis case. We also treated malnutrition, injury, heart problems, and anemia. We referred 4 patients to specialists.

Your partnership is crucial in keeping the clinic open and available 24-7 -- available to people who are isolated in the rural sectors and unable to travel because of the security situation.

With Gratitude,

Dr. Maguy Louinise Randiche, APF Clinic, Fondwa, Haiti
