Project Report | Dec 30, 2022
Integrating health care with other services

By Margarita Pilier | Project Coordinator

Dear Donor, please receive a warm greeting. Thank you for your contribution, we are thrilled to have your support. Through your donation we have been able to serve quality health care services to thousands of children living in the underserved communities of the Punta Cana region. You truly make the difference for us, and we are extremely grateful!

It is so rewarding to arrive at the pediatric center any morning and see so many children in need receiving medical attention and the alleviation on their mothers' faces as well.

This and all the reports to follow will update you on our progress and how your donation is been invested in this social initiative.

Currently 100% of the medical services are available and they are being demanded by the population.

The patient service hours are from 8:00am to 4:00 pm, from Monday to Friday, except the 24-hour emergency service (every day, including weekends and holidays).

Nowadays the clinic continues offering health prevention programs, outpatient consultations, dental care, vaccination, x ray services, emergency, laboratory, nutrition program (together with UNICEF and “Sanar una Nación”), pharmacy services, staff training program.

From September to November 2022 the center served 7,999 patients

The areas with the highest flow of patients are emergency, pediatric consultations, laboratory and vaccination.

The most common medical cases in the last months: Respiratory infections , febrile syndrome, skin infections, injuries from external causes and gastrointestinal disorders.

Also we held the following activities:

  • Dental day together with World of Smiles and New York University. The staff found that 35% of the children they saw had caries (18 out of 52 children) with 6 of those children mentioning there was some pain. We plan to develop a dental care program along with those entities focused in prevention
  •  Promotion of the Children's Reading Program, thanks to the collaboration of Akron's Children Hospital. The books that patients receive (through this program) stimulate the imagination, creativity and fun. They also try to arouse in them an interest in everything that surrounds them; becoming at the same time tools for their development and education. In the last 3 months the center delivered 723 books, for patients attending the areas of pediatric consultation and nutrition consults

Please see the pictures attached to this report

There are still goals to achieve in this stage of the project:

  • Purchase the needed medical equipment and furniture: Additional desktop computers, printer CR-X30, additional telephones, new dental chair, sterilizer, vacuum cleaner for the emergency area, new seating sets for the waiting area.
  • Purchase and implement a software to improve the administrative efficiency
  • Increase the staff training programs
  • Increase the supply of medical materials and medications.

Looking forward you continue to partner with us !

In the upcoming months we will keep you updated on the progress of our project. If you have any comment, advice or question, please let us know and we will respond as best we can.

Thank you very much again for your support !

Best wishes !
