PEDIATRIC CENTER FOR 15,600 CHILDREN IN NEED

Dear donor, thank you very much for your donation, it is so rewarding to know that the work we are doing, with your valuable help, is resulting in the improvement of the living conditions of thousands of children in need through access to quality and timely health services

This is mainly you have helped us achieve !, your contribution is really impacting the children population of the deprived communities of the Punta Cana tourist destination.

This and all the reports to follow will update you on our progress and how your donation is been invested in this social initiative.

Currently 100% of the medical services are available. The patient service hours are from 8:00am to 4:00 pm, from Monday to Friday. Emergency is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays

Nowadays the clinic continues offering health prevention programs, outpatient consultations, ambulance, dental care, vaccination, x ray services, emergency, laboratory, nutrition program (together with UNICEF and “Sanar una Nación”), pharmacy, ultrasound, staff training program.

 It offers additional medical services to what a primary care center normally offers, making it an only of its kind in the Dominican Republic. 

As a new feature at the health center, we have integrated mini musical concerts into the waiting room. Music therapy offers numerous benefits, helping children relieve pain and anxiety, improve communication and social development, and even normalize the hospital environment, making it safer and less hostile for them and their families.

In the last 4 months the center served 8,208 patients  

The areas with the highest flow of patients are emergency, pediatric consultations, laboratory and vaccination.  

The most common medical cases in the last months: Respiratory infections, febrile syndrome, skin infections, injuries from external causes and gastrointestinal disorders.      

In the last months the center held the following activities:

• Distribution of fortified lentils to more than 100 families.
• Talks on dental health care.
• Participation in a community medical mission with Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) . During this mission 100 children from 4 vulnerable communities in the Punta Cana region benefited from consultations and medications for free
• Recreational and educational activity led by the Grupo Puntacana  Corporate Volunteering Program

The project continues implementing the Children's Reading Promotion Program thanks to the collaboration of Akron Children Hospital, which consists of donating books to patients to stimulate imagination, creativity, recreation and the habit of reading.

 The center makes a difference in pediatric care and contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 agenda of the United Nations (UN), specifically Goal 3 - Health and Well-being

There are still goals to achieve in this stage of the project:

• Purchase the needed medical equipment and furniture:   playsets for the outdoor recreational area, additional sterilizer and vacuum cleaner for the emergency area, chairs for the emergency and vaccination areas, various types of sphygnomanometers, office chairs, shelves, oximeters, nebulizers, among others.   
• Purchase and implement a software to improve the administrative efficiency
• Expand the staff training program
• Expand the facilities  
• Increase the supply of medical materials and medications.

We are able to serve quality health care services to thousands of children living in the underserved communities of the Punta Cana region because of supporters like you.

We are grateful that so many generous souls are supporting our cause. Thank you for helping us save precious lives.

The project, located in the community of Verón and accessible to all vulnerable communities of the Punta Can region, was inaugurated in 2017 and it continues  providing quality primary care to children (0-15 years old) of low- income families.

In the last months the center held the following activities:

• Distribution of toys and snacks to children in the community.
• Distribution of fortified lentils to more than 100 families.
• Talk on childhood cancer awareness and prevention, with distribution of allusive kits benefiting more than 50 families.
• Talks on dental health care.
• Participation in a community medical mission with Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) and Duquesne University. During this mission 100 children from 2 vulnerable communities in the Punta Cana region benefited from consultations and medications for free

• Purchase and implement a software to improve the administrative efficiency
• Expand the staff training program
• Increase the supply of medical materials and medications.
