In Bamako, Mali, many teenagers face adulthood without accurate information about HIV or sexual health. This project trains teen peer educators to lead honest conversations with their peers about HIV prevention, STI awareness, and family planning. When young people learn from trusted friends, they listen differently. With your support, we can train more teen leaders to reach hundreds of adolescents with life-saving knowledge and help build a healthier future for their communities.
Across West Africa, adolescents face a high risk of HIV infection, unintended pregnancy, and misinformation about sexual health. In Mali, many young people- especially girls- lack access to accurate health education and supportive spaces to ask questions. Without education about consent, responsibility, and healthy relationships, harmful gender norms continue to put girls at risk. As a result, young people may face early pregnancy, school dropout, stigma, and long-term health challenges.
This project trains teenagers to be peer educators who lead conversations about HIV prevention, STI awareness, family planning, and respectful relationships. Working with local partners in Bamako, Mali, we will: train youth leaders to facilitate discussions about sexual health, organize weekly peer discussion groups in schools and communities, provide free condoms and HIV testing information, and engage both boys and girls in conversations about responsibility, consent, and healthy partnerships.
When young people have knowledge, they make healthier choices. This project will help hundreds of adolescents in Bamako increase their knowledge about HIV and STI prevention, develop confidence to discuss sexual health openly, and access HIV testing and prevention services. By engaging both boys and girls, we can reduce stigma, prevent new HIV infections, and build a generation of young leaders who support healthier communities.
