Summary

More than 200 children visit their mothers, sisters, aunts and grandmothers in Unit 46 of the San Martin Prison in a space with a covered sector and another in the open air. The space is insufficient, deteriorated and inadequate to the needs of the children who visit them. This project seeks that women deprived of their liberty and affected by multiple inequalities become protagonists in the construction of a suitable environment for themselves and their families.

Challenge

The housing conditions in which the women live inside the prison include overcrowding and a lack of outdoor recreational spaces. There is a lack of adequate areas to favour meetings with families and for care, play and activities that promote the rights of children. The living room and patio for common use are very small, limited for the privacy and recreation that the encounter with your loved ones requires.

Solution

The completion of this project will have an impact on the daily life of the boys and girls who regularly visit the women. In this way, the expected result will be the generation of moments of entertainment, care and recreation that improve the quality of life of those who circulate through this space through the building intervention of the common use patio.

Long-Term Impact

With the objective of improving the quality of life of children who visit relatives in prison, as well as the fulfillment of their rights, it is expected that in the long term the vital trajectories of these children will be favored by having gone through the visits in a context that favors well-being, care, bonding and play. The moments of reunion with the family are situations enjoyed by all, since the distance of their closeness and care ties are one of the most difficult challenges they face
