Laila is a young trans-woman from Afghanistan. Laila has suffered physical and psychological violence from her father and brothers owing to her gender identity. She is also a sexual violence survivor, and was abused at a very young age.
When fleeing became the only option, she and her mother entered Türkiye. During the journey, Laila was subjected to physical violence. Laila, who started working in a textile workshop with her friend Sarah, states that it is difficult to be in business as a trans woman. She says it's unbearable to even be exposed to so many looks on her way to or from work.
Laila and her friend, who do not feel safe in the city they live in decided to change that city, as they were exposed to social pressure. Laila expressed that they overcome this tough situation thanks to the support of Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants(ASAM). She stated their difficult life by saying, “Before the civil war in Afghanistan, we had harsh life condition. We have always experienced the pressure, oppression and judgment. We want peace in order to live.”. She thanks the all ASAM staff, by expressing that she will never forget their effort finding solutions to their problems.
