Thanks to your generosity and the loyal support of our donors, the Peruvian Hearts scholars continue to prosper and develop into the next generation of leaders. It is truly inspiring to see them grow and it is because of your desire to help that these young women are transforming their futures and empowering their families. We are excited to watch these young women continue to succeed and fulfill their dreams as they mature into young leaders.
In the coming year, six Peruvian Hearts scholars will finish their university classes, complete their required internship hours in order to graduate, and receive their college diplomas. These young women will be the first of their families to graduate from any sort of post-secondary schooling and their families could not be prouder. As college graduates, these young women will continue to be involved with Peruvian Hearts in various ways and will help mentor the younger girls who participating in our program. As several of the scholars prepare to graduate from university in the coming year, other younger Peruvian Hearts girls will finish their final year of high school. These girls are currently attending preparatory academies to help them prepare for the upcoming university entrance exam later this month.
Recently, seventeen Peruvian Hearts scholars successfully completed an 11-week leadership course in Cusco. Through active participation and dynamic and engaging exercises, the course covered various topics including leadership, self-esteem, public speaking, and spirituality, and many of the girls talked about what a significant impact the course had for them. Several girls mentioned that the course helped them to overcome their fear of public speaking and gave them more courage to openly express their feelings. Courses such as this are invaluable for our girls and continue to help them blossom into extraordinary young leaders.
In honor of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day on November 19th and Women Wednesday (#WomenWOW) on December 2nd, six Peruvian Hearts scholars will fly to Lima to attend Empresarias en Acción, a two-day women’s entrepreneur workshop in Lima hosted by WEConnect International, Emprende Mujer Peru, and sponsored by the United States Embassy in Peru and the University of San Isidro Lima’s Center for Entrepreneurship. The workshop will give our girls the opportunity to learn from and be inspired by some of the most well respected women entrepreneurs in Peru and they will meet many other like-minded women who also dream about owning their own businesses. They will then bring their newfound knowledge back to their fellow scholars in Cusco to share information and inspiration to others.
