Education is one of the greatest tools we have to tackle poverty and gender inequality, yet in rural Nepal less than 30% of children complete primary school. We believe that one of the first steps to empowering communities and improving education is to ensure that teachers are trained, supported and equipped to deliver excellent standards of education in an environment where children can effectively learn. We need your help to deliver this vision.
Teachers in rural areas of Nepal are often not able to access training easily and their teaching methods can be ineffective; there is often a focus on rote learning and physical punishment meaning that children are not inspired to learn. Alongside the challenges in schools there is also a lack of understanding about the importance of education in many rural areas and the change that it can bring to a community. Often girls are kept out of school and denied their right to an education.
With your help we can train and support 1500 teachers to provide up to 25,000 children in remote mountain regions of Nepal a better education. Teachers are observed before the 3-day training to identify any specific areas for attention. Topics include understanding the different learning styles, the advantages of group work and planning lessons effectively. Gender sensitization is covered to help teachers understand how important their role is for female students and the impact on their future.
With well-planned and appropriate follow-up sessions our specialized teacher training can benefit the teacher and their classroom for years to come and does not need continuous or costly intervention. It is a simple yet effective way to inspire teachers and students for the benefit of their communities and prepare the next generation to better tackle poverty and gender equality in Nepal.
