Training 2000 Teachers/Empowering 10000 Girls/Boys

With the support to Himalayan Development Foundation, Australia PHASE Nepal organized a three-day training on Digital Teaching and Learning for 20 teachers from two public schools in Phaktalung Rural Municipality in Taplejung district, east Nepal in June 2026. The training focused on building teachers’ knowledge and confidence in using digital tools as part of their teaching. Digital tools can help teachers explain concepts in different ways, engage students actively, make classroom learning more interactive and guide students for accessing useful wider range online resources beyond the textbooks.

A classroom can change when teachers gain new skills and more importantly learn how to apply them effectively in their teaching. In a rapidly changing world where digital technology and online access are increasingly part of everyday life, digital literacy can have a meaningful impact on teaching and learning. When teachers have both the skills and necessary equipment to use technology in the classroom, they can create new opportunities for students to learn, explore and prepare for the future.

When teachers become more confident in using digital technology, the benefits extend to their students. Lessons can become more engaging, students can explore new learning materials and they can begin developing digital skills that are useful not only in school but also in their everyday lives and future careers too. A trained teacher does not keep new knowledge to themselves, they take it into the classroom where it influences generations of learners.

However, training alone is not enough to create sustainable change. Alongside the training, PHASE Nepal also supported the participating schools and teachers with the necessary digital equipment to use these skills in the classrooms. Without access to appropriate equipment teachers may have limited opportunities to practice and apply what they have learned.

Creating a supportive environment is therefore an important part of digital education. Teachers need the skills, confidence, resources and opportunities to practice using technology meaningfully. When these elements come together digital learning can become part of everyday teaching rather than remaining something learned during a training session.

The goal of the training is not simply to introduce digital tools into classrooms. It is to empower teachers to use technology with confidence, while helping students develop skills they can carry beyond the classroom and into their daily lives and future opportunities. By strengthening teachers today, we can help students become more confident, capable and prepared to participate in a world that is being digitalized each day.

Integrating digital technology into Nepal’s school level education has been realized to be vital for raising quality and bridging learning gaps. Frameworks like, School Education Sector Plan (2022-2032) and the Digital Nepal Framework promote smart classrooms, digital literacy, and localized e-learning content. especially in underfunded public schools in rural Nepal. Persistent challenges prevail especially in public schools in rural hard to reach areas in Nepal. Most of the rural public schools lack appropriate digital devices, electricity, high-speed internet connectivity, suitably trained adequate number of teachers for transition to tech-enabled interactive teaching and learning practices.
