Dear Friends,
In recent months we have been rebuilding schools in mountainous areas devastated by typhoon winds, mud slides and flooding throughout 2023. Our Philippine disaster relief efforts helped us to form new relationships with isolated mountain tribes who are not generally open to outside assistance. Through our network and mission to stay weeks or months after disasters in order to rebuild communities, we have gained the trust of local leaders. Local tribe members provide labor and expertise in local customs and building styles. We fund construction materials alongside local partners. "This keeps previously feuding communities working together over what matters most, their children, in ways most comfortable to them," says Miss Renzen who coordinates many of our projects.
We are also building school gardens and setting up school feeding in these vital program areas. The best part is each school does it their way, with parents and teachers and supportive volunteers making it happen, every day.
Asia America Initiative works with communities in remote villages who are difficult to reach. Despite adverse conditions, we continue to assist thousands of families -- Christians, Muslims and Indigenous tribal peoples -- who suffer in desperate conditions. We have been active in more than six provinces located in the three major regions of the 7,000 island Philippine archipelago where hundreds of different cultures thrive and myriad of various languages and dialects are spoken.
According to the United Nations and other global agencies, the Philippines is the country in our world most affected by natural disasters. Asia America Initiative and our network of local partner organizations, staffed mostly by volunteers, have provided medicines, shelter materials, clean water and food support to needy families and individual disaster survivors.
