Building Better Schools and Homes, to Restore Better Lives

By Albert Santoli | Project Leader

Dear Friends,

During the past ten years, AAI has been steadily adding new schools to our One School, One Family program. This is due to support from our GlobalGiving donors and otherkind-hearted individuals.  The need for better quality schools in the Philippines has grown in the post-COVID period. In addition, climate change and typhoon relief have brought us to new communities trying to survive and rebuild after the storms' destruction. As an AAI sponsor, you have seen in previous reports how these calamities have brought underserved communities close to our heart. We seek to preserve families, traditions, schools, and towns.

To rebuild, AAI’s mission is to involve the local residents, local leadership, volunteers, and businesses. We provide construction materials to communities that know how to build but lack the resources to get started. We also advocate that when rebuilding schools, the structures be upgraded to protect against water-borne disease, undrinkable water, and include destroyed homes whenever possible.  We use local materials such as thatch, bamboo, hardwood and  concrete when available and practical.

Schools are the center of positive community relationships. When disaster strikes anywhere in the world, the local school is often the natural shelter and meeting place for families to flee to. In AAI programs, people learn to compliment each other. They get to know and trust each other and learn how to work together.

"Everyone is busy with our annual school repair week," says Principal Melda at Indanan South school district.  "There many things to be done in preparation for the opening of the upcoming school year. AAI is always there for us, encouraging our success and providing needed resources.  Thank you so much to all teachers, carpenters, parents and pupils for unending help to our teachers in our school.  And thank you, AAI donors,  for your support."

According to the United Nations and other global agencies, the Philippines is the global leader among countries most affected by natural disasters. Asia America Initiative, along with our network of local partner organizations, which are staffed mainly by volunteers, has provided medicines, shelter materials, clean water, and food support to needy families and individual disaster survivors.

Thank you, dear donors, for your ongoing contributions. If you would like to continue your support or are interested in becoming a long-term sponsor with a monthly donation, please click the link below. Your support helps families recover from typhoons and natural disasters.
