In the world, more than 60 million girls cannot attend primary and lower secondary school. The roots of this gender gap can be found in child marriage, early pregnancy, poverty and in schools, that often, not meeting the safety, hygiene or sanitation needs of girls. Since 2018 we promote the "Pink Bags" project: scholarships for deserving young girl students living in difficult economic and social conditions. Because to educate a girl means creating a virtuous circle out of poverty.
Without education, girls are more likely to marry and have children when they are still young. Each additional year of schooling, a girl in a low-income country will increase her future income and be aware of the importance of educate her children. More than ever there is a need to train girls to become leaders in their communities
The "Pink Bags" project will provide scholarships for deserving young girl living in difficult economic and social conditions in Bangladesh, India and Brasil helping them to get a graduation. Beside providing financial support to girls starting from grade IV up to college, the project will sensitize local authorities and communities through seminars against early marriage and for girls' rights and will advocate for timely birth registrations.
The project will prevent forced child marriages, reduce the rate of maternal mortality and increase the probability that their children will attend school and be in good health. In the long term, this can bring girls and their families outside the cycle of poverty.
