In forest-edge villages like in Blora, Central Java, environmental degradation is never only about trees—it is about people. When forests decline, water sources weaken, soil fertility drops, and rural incomes become increasingly fragile. Over time, ecological loss translates into social and economic vulnerability.
Restoring nature, therefore, must go hand in hand with reviving communities.
Through collaboration between Yayasan INFEST and local stakeholders are strengthening participatory forest governance at the village level. Community members and village authorities are trained to map local assets, assess welfare conditions, and design evidence-based conservation policies. This ensures that restoration is not imposed from outside, but built upon the strengths, rights, and capacities of the village itself.
At the landscape level, restoration is implemented through agroforestry and agrosilvopastoral systems—integrating coffee cultivation with timber trees, fruit crops, conservation species, and livestock. This diversified approach rebuilds ecological functions while creating sustainable income streams for farmers. The land becomes more resilient to climate stress, and families gain greater economic stability.
As trees take root, so does hope. Farmers begin to see forests not as restricted zones or depleted resources, but as living systems that can sustain both livelihoods and biodiversity. Local governance becomes stronger, collective action grows, and communities regain confidence in shaping their own development pathways.
Restoring nature is not only about replanting trees. It is about rebuilding dignity, resilience, and opportunity—ensuring that healthy forests and thriving rural communities grow together for generations to come.
