The effects of climate change are felt in rural Senegal, such as the increase in temperature, the decrease in rainfall, etc...
All this has negative impacts on agriculture which is one of the essential activities for the rural population. So to face the damage caused by these phenomena, CREATE! sets up an annual reforestation campaign in its intervention areas and surroundings. The results are generally positive thanks to a regular monitoring of the team and a good awareness of the importance of trees, mitigation and reforestation.
Photo 1: Talking about landscape CREATE! does not only focus on exotic forest trees but also includes specific fruit trees which provide an attractive and beneficial landscape (economic, food and therapeutic).
Photo 2: This illustration shows the generational differences of different tree species. In this case, we have Acacia olocericea in the background defining windbreaks on the fence. We also notice a corridor composed of two species of trees that are Moringa oleifera that constitute windbreaks and serve as food too. It is named in the world level as trees of life (Never die) thanks to its multiple therapeutic virtues; just next to it we notice Carica papaya inside the corridor that will be in production in a year which will contribute to an economic, nutritional and therapeutic increase of the direct beneficiaries
Photo 3: As described in photo 2 we can see the development of Moringa oleifera in all CREATE! communities, these trees are proving to be essential to the daily diet of the rural populations of Senegal especially in the localities where they exist. Anacardium occidental in curtain of trees in several parts of the site which will also be able to serve in a few years to contribute to the food, to the economic increase of the direct beneficiaries and at the same time to provide dead wood which will be able to be used as firewood for cooking. One can see through the Moringa oleifera trees the carica papaya which is present in all the CREATE! gardens
Photo 4: With limited financial means we manage to drain water from the community’s wells and keep them in captivity in basins to achieve landscape results such as this illustration.
Photo 5: Result of two-year-old Moringa oleifera trees alley in one of CREATE! communities.
