Changing the Landscape of Life with planting trees

By Shahinur Bashar | Ms

With your support, we have all embarked on this remarkable journey to improve the world, and we have achieved significant success in our reforestation program. As we step into 2026, our communities in Senegal continue their dedicated work in reforestation, planting trees that support both the environment and their livelihoods. This year, thanks to our team’s dedication and donor support, we surpassed expectations, reaching a new milestone in promoting sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

Our 23 communities are thriving in the reforestation program, as one of the new communities mentioned, “since starting the reforestation campaign with CREATE!, our nursery is thriving and soon ready for planting. These trees will bring shade, improve nutrition, protect soil, and enhance the well-being of our community for years to come.”  Keur Mandongo, one of 23 villages, truly leads the way with its inspiring reforestation efforts. They’re using solar pumps and regenerative practices, which help save over 7,000 kg of carbon each year. Their community-driven planting of more than 4,500 saplings is not only restoring ecosystems but also strengthening local resilience, showing how collective action can make a real difference.

Our participants from one of our villages, Wereyane, say, “through CREATE’s programs, we have planted fruit trees, windbreaks, and medicinal plants that improve soil moisture and provide much-needed shade. These trees also contribute to our nutrition and help protect the soil from erosion, enhancing our community’s well-being”. Keur Birane’s participant says they plant trees such as moringa, lemon, soursop, banana, guava, hedge, and windbreak trees. These trees are bringing more shade around the houses and in the garden. The trees also help protect the land from the wind and provide it with fruit.

Along with the benefits mentioned, our reforestation campaigns in Senegal empower communities to combat climate change and strengthen their resilience to extreme weather. By planting trees, we help protect the country’s environment and build a sustainable future for generations to come.

Join us in growing hope and resilience—your support can help plant more trees and strengthen communities across Senegal. Together, we can expand this vital work and create lasting change for people and the planet.
