Project Report | Feb 10, 2022
Buyoga First Land sapling planting activities

By Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana | Project Leader

Dear Patrons,

Thank you so much for all the support that you have provided so far for our Rwanda forestation project.

We are happy to share with you, the detailed report about the Day 1 of the sapling planting. We planted saplings at location Rwanda:72RJ+CRW (Google Plus code). This area’s name is Buyoga. On Saturday, the 5th of January 2022, we planted saplings from 8 AM to 3 PM.

Around 30 students from Muyanza Primary school participated in the planting. They enjoyed the activities very much. We request you to see the attached photos and the video. Rwandan youth Development and Voluntary organization volunteers ensured that the activities happened as planned. The students were also supported by their parents who authorized them to come and participate in this valuable activity. One village community leader also came and supported the activity.

Before the start of tree planting, the students got a brief guidance sessions on importance of trees and the technique to use during planting. Around 1100 trees were planted (99% were citrons and 2% Grevillea and oranges). This week, we will continue to transport more organic fertilizer, and additional 300 trees will be planted this week at the same location.

The children were very happy, and the planting activity was very enjoyable. All of the children said that they will participate in tree planting again the next time. They also wish to have trees to go to plant them at their homes. RWAYDAVO promised to give two trees per child for the next tree planting activity that will involve students.

We have used organic fertilizer as planned at this land. We will use BRC brand fence, to protect the land in which the trees are planted from animals like goats, cows, and sheep, as well as from the disturbances caused by the humans. We will start this activity in the beginning of next week for land 1. We are planning to start planting for land 2 by the end of this week.

After all these activities, we will need additional funds for maintenance.  The maintenance will include to prune the area properly in order to keep the trees healthy and strong, Water is food for our trees and plants – that’s why effective watering is one of the most important ways to care and maintain, so watering might be needed during dry season. Also. as the soil compaction prevents water

and oxygen from infiltrating to the tree’s roots, we will make sure that the soil is not compacted. We will be doing mulch about 6 inches from the base of our trees so that we cannot damage our trees roots.

We request you to donate generously for our project so that we can keep working and achieve our goals. You could also consider doing a monthly recurring donation for our project, which will help us with our ongoing work.  The link for the monthly recurring donation is mentioned below in the report.

We thank you for everything that you have done for our project, and we look forward for your continued support.

Thanks & Best Regards.

Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana

RWAYDAVO President
