Dear Patrons,
We are very happy to thank you very much for all the support that you have provided so far for our Rwanda forestation project.
We are so excited to share with you the progress of sapling planting activities for the land one. We planted saplings at location Rwanda:72RJ+CRW (Google Plus code). This area’s name is Buyoga. On Saturday, the 12 of January 2022, we planted additional 300 saplings from 8 AM to 12 PM, and we have completed the tree planting for land 1 with a total of 1400 trees.
We take this opportunity thank students from Muyanza Primary school and their valuable and active participation in this forestation project. In this activity on the second day, the total of 25 students participated in the planting. RWAYDAVO Volunteers and project workers helped in digging holes deep enough to cover the tree's root-ball and to put the organic fertilizer. Then a student would remove the root-ball from the container and place the tree in the hole. It was amazing to see children doing such steps successfully! They enjoyed the activities very much. Rwandan Youth Development and Voluntary organization volunteers and leaders ensured that the activities happened as planned.
We would like also to let you know that the saplings we planted for the first time all are growing well and none of it died due to any reason. This is because it is the rainy season, and it rained just 30 minutes after the planting activities. I would like also to let you know the trees we planted; 98% are citrons and 3% Grevillea and oranges). At the edge of the Land 1, we have planted grevillea. So, we have completed sapling planting on the Land 1.
The planting of trees was also very much supported by the community leaders and the district leaders. They have also requested our organization to help in reforestation of old forests located in Rulindo district. I would le also to let you know that children were very happy, and the planting activity was very enjoyable and supported by the community. As the children requested us to give them trees to help them plant at their homes, RWAYDAVO have decided to give two saplings to each child.
For fencing Land 1, we have started basic activities that will help us to construct fences. The detailed reported will be shared next week. We will be use fencing the land, because we want to protect the land in which the trees are planted from animals like goats, cows, and sheep, as well as from the disturbances caused by the humans. After all these activities we will do maintenance.
We need ongoing funds for the regular maintenance of the saplings and the land. The maintenance will require maximum care and supervision to make sure that trees are growing well. This activity will also include pruning the area properly in order to keep the trees healthy and strong, Water is food for our trees and plants – that’s why effective watering is one of the most important ways to care and maintain, so watering might be needed during dry season. Also, as the soil compaction prevents water and oxygen from infiltrating to the tree’s roots, we will make sure that the soil is not compacted. We will be doing mulch about 6 inches from the base of your tree so that we cannot damage our trees roots.
We request you to donate generously for our project so that we can keep working and achieve our goals. You could also consider doing a monthly recurring donation for our project, which will help us with our ongoing work. The link for the monthly recurring donation is mentioned below in the report.
We thank you for everything that you have done for our project, and we look forward for your continued support.
Thanks & Best Regards.
Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana
RWAYDAVO President
